Basset Hound
The Basset Hound actually originated in France - the word "Basset" means "low set" in French.
It is also thought that the Basset Hound may be a descendant of the St. Hubert Hound, which is now extinct.
Basset Hounds are sporting dogs with a keen sense of smell and the ability to cover great distances in a short time. They are often used by sporting enthusiasts to trail hares, rabbits, deer and other game. Working in packs, the Basset Hound's solid build and shorter stature make it perfectly suited to this activity - especially in dense brush.
