It was the practice of young miners to ride on the limbers, (part of the harness between the pony and the coal tub) many of these young miners where maimed or sometimes killed when they fell and were crushed by the tub.

It was not until the 1960s that the Coal Board made this illegal - this had little effect on the you miners eager to avoid a long walk.
