LMS Black Five
LMS Black Five Locomotive - model
Black Five was built as a multiple purpose engine for the London Midland and Scottish (LMS) railway and designed by Sir William Stanier.
A strong candidate for the title of the best British steam locomotive ever designed, Staniers Black Fives were the classic go-anywhere, do-anything locomotive. Though only ever allocated to the Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, they could in practice turn up almost anywhere.
A total of 842 locomotives were built between 1934 and 1951
The Black Five steam locomotive was a mixed traffic locomotive, it was a do anything, go any where type, designed by Stainer.
He had previously been with GWR in his early LMS Days, he designed his Stainer mogul 2-6-0 in which got experimented with the GWR School of thought on locomotive design.
